The Black Dahlia Murder
The Black Dahlia Murder
Hailing from Detroit, MI this five-piece band does not compromise the integrity of their music for anyone. Heavily influenced by Swedish metal and infused with the very brutal sounds of Florida death metal scene, The Black Dahlia Murder's debut release Unhallowed blends the perfect mix of the blast beats, heavy guitars and melody. What starts off with a low audio clip of vocalist Trevor reading from a book on cannibalism quickly and quite brutally jumps right into a full force attack on your senses, that does not let up until the album's end. This venomous, yet melodic death metal outfit named after the brutal unsolved slaying of wannabe actress and temptress Elizabeth Short draws influence from forefathers such as At The Gates, Dissection and Carcass. What The Black Dahlia Murder does is up the speed and intensity of the style into a gore-soaked whirlwind all their own. They seamlessly twist from destructively fast blast beats to beautiful and dark melodic textures, creating a soundtrack to the horror and insanity surrounding the Black Dahlia legacy. The only thing better than hearing this band on their new full-length release is to catch them drawing blood live. The stage presence of this band completely transcends the hair swaying posing that this genre has become accustomed to, reintroducing an unbridled energy long absent from the current death metal scene. The Black Dahlia Murder is a band that is not to be missed, and once witnessed cannot be denied.
The Acacia Strain
The Acacia Strain
It can be said that some bands truly embody a certain spirit or emotion. Without a doubt, Massachusetts' long running juggernauts, THE ACACIA STRAIN, truly embody anger. And that shows more than ever on their newest full length, "Wormwood." The band's actual sound and vibe are more ferocious than ever on this, their fourth full length for Prosthetic Records and fifth effort overall. Even the successes of their previous full-length, "Continent," which debuted at #2 on Billboard's "Heatseekers" chart in 2008 and their DVD, "The Most Known Unknown," which debuted at #10 on Billboard's Top Video Sales Chart in the February of its release, have not assuaged front man and lyricist Vincent Bennett's turmoil. For "Wormwood," the band returned to the scene of the creation of "Continent;" producer Zeus' of Planet Z Studio in Hadley, MA, who has previously worked with the likes of Hatebreed, The Red Chord, All That Remains and more, engineered, mixed and mastered the slab of vitriol. This time around, we find guitarist, D.L. experimenting with 8 string guitars, adding further depth and low end to the band's already stomach-turning low end sound. "Wormwood" peaked at #67 on the U.S. Billboard charts, signaling metal fans' increasing affinity for the band's sheer musical passion and vicious brand of heaviness. The band appeared on last year's "Cool Tour" with As I Lay Dying, Underoath, Between the Buried And Me, Blessthefall, Architects, Cancer Bats and War of Ages. The band's extensive tour history has them on the road with acts such as Whitechapel, Unearth, Bleeding Through, Killswitch Engage, Despised Icon and August Burns Red. They have also appeared on The Sounds of the Underground Tour and will be a must-see addition to this summer's Vans Warped Tour. THE ACACIA STRAIN were formed in 2002 in Western Massachusetts, and have gone through a variety of line ups, even, at one point having three guitars, but have played in their current incarnation since 2006. That line up consists of vocalist Vincent Bennett, bassist Jack Strong, guitarist Daniel "DL" Laskeiwitz and drummer Kevin Boutot.
Nile

All Shall Perish
All Shall Perish
Death metal and technical grind have an interesting way of co-existing. While each genre shares characteristics with the other it would seem that many bands would rather stay narrow in scope and keep the two as oil and water. However some outstanding young acts in the last few years have managed to rejuvenate the underground by encompassing more of extreme metal’s tangents and delivering some very impacting and fresh ideas into a seemingly over-cooked stew. Despised Icon, Beneath The Massacre, Leng Tch’e and others have thrown all caution (and rules) into the wind and are re-defining the death and grind genres with vibrant ideas and unrelenting delivery. Oakland’s ALL SHALL PERISH are cut from that same jib; delivering brutal music that possesses a natural need to experiment and push the boundaries of the extreme underground. Their second offering, The Price Of Existence, will turn the death metal and underground hordes on their collective ear, and when all is said and done the band is sure to be touted as one of the best young extreme acts from the West Coast in this new millennium.

Finding common ground with a taste for such bands as Dying Fetus, Opeth, Cannibal Corpse, Hatebreed, Blood Has Been Shed and At The Gates, ALL SHALL PERISH formed with the intent of not being labeled with the restricting monikers of "death metal", "hardcore" or "metalcore", rather they simply wanted to brutalize audiences and get people moving. The band's 2005 Nuclear Blast debut Hate, Malice, Revenge proved that they were capable of blending various styles while delivering memorable and intelligent songs to all fans of metal and hardcore. Their live show brought the band's vicious attack from coast to coast with such known acts like Six Feet Under, Agnostic Front, As I Lay Dying, Bleeding Through, Brujeria, Dying Fetus, Diecast and Hate Eternal, and before anyone knew it ALL SHALL PERISH had racked up almost 10,000 units via Soundscan.

Change is inevitable, and when you’re 100% committed to your art it’s imperative that only the best people be involved. ASP took the necessary steps to outfit themselves with the best line-up available for The Price Of Existence. New vocalist Hernan “Eddie” Hermida’s delivery adds more depth and clarity to the band's overall impact, while the technical skills of guitarist Ben Orum and new axesmith Chris Storey are as top-notch as those of the most seasoned players in underground metal (“Prisoner Of War” and “There Is No Business To Be Done On A Dead Planet” are perfect examples). Powerhouse drummer Matt Kuykendall gives a heart stopping performance, immediately ranking him just under such elite players as Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) and Derek Roddy (Hate Eternal). Tracks like "Eradication", “We Hold These Truths” and the ever-so-catchy “Wage Slaves” are brutal and would knock a gorilla on its backside, while “The Last Relapse” and the moody instrumental “Interlude” show a melodic side to the band which proves that ALL SHALL PERISH have forged ahead light years and have delivered a regal metal gem. The Price Of Existence is demanding indeed!
Skeletonwitch
Skeletonwitch
Formed in Athens, Ohio, SKELETONWITCH has been launching metal assaults on an unsuspecting underground since 2003. The members of THE WITCH are bonded by the universal truth, that heavy metal is the law, thereby unleashing the band's brand of ripping, epic thrash. Everything begins with the purity and aggression of the 80s Bay Area thrash scene, but SKELETONWITCH further fuels its evil onslaught with elements of black and Viking metal while proudly waving the NWOBHM flag. Imagine a young Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Exodus slamming beers and cranking up Immortal records at a rager in 1985. Just when you think the keg is killed, Judas Priest joins the party with a fresh case of beer.
Carnifex
Carnifex
For more than 25 years, Death Metal has been the most maniacal and vicious form of rock. Covering the obscene and praising the perverse, extreme Death Metal still reigns as the driving force that continues to devour all other forms of hard rock. As each year passes in this brutal movement it becomes increasingly difficult to find suitable leaders to carry the torch and continue to entice and surprise an audience that certainly isn't shocked by much, and is definitely impressed by little. That search has ended.

Allow us to introduce CARNIFEX.

Derived from the Old English word for "executioner," their moniker could not be more appropriate. It's a word that reeks of death and destruction from the Dark Ages to describe a fierce, dark death metal band. It's hard to imagine that San Diego - known for its white sand beaches, endless sunny days and astronomical real estate, is also home to the brutal beat down that is CARNIFEX.

In 2005, vocalist Scott Lewis had a chance meeting with like-minded, gifted drummer Shawn Cameron. Having both played in a countless number of bands over the years that just didn't "seem to fit," the connection between the two was felt instantly. Together, they began a search to fill the musical void that had existed in each of their lives. They quickly formed a group and hit the road. And CARNIFEX, being the serious-minded musicians that they are, hit the road hard. Refusing to be another "here today, gone tomorrow" trend, CARNIFEX let nothing stop them from perfecting their live show, touring relentlessly and writing brainsick, yet intelligent, songs. Having endured everything from tour cancellations, van breakdowns and inevitable line-up changes, that "magical fit" was solidified by the end of 2007. Scott and Shawn were joined by the intensity of guitarists Cory Arford and Ryan Gudmunds. Bassist Fred Calderon rounded out the furious fivesome.

The non-stop touring and methodical songwriting eventually resulted in CARNIFEX selling over 5,000 copies of their first full-length album, Dead in My Arms, with little publicity. Not surprisingly, industry types started to notice; however, none as quickly as Victory Records. The men of CARNIFEX were welcomed to the Victory family almost immediately after they showcased their brilliance to the staff in November 2007. Having spent a lot of time writing during the previous year, CARNIFEX was primed to get into the studio to begin the current masterpiece that is The Diseased and the Poisoned. Zeuss (Unearth, Shadows Fall, Hatebreed) at Planet Z Studios was a natural choice for the band as producer, and they entered the studio rapidly and intently.

CARNIFEX is something musically unique. But what really makes CARNIFEX stand out from the throngs of other hard rock acts currently scouring the planet is their savage live show. Their declaration to make every night an "experience" for fans rather than just a "show" has proven to be perhaps the most appreciated trait of the band among fans. But you can keep your pyrotechnics and other special effects at home…CARNIFEX relies solely on the power of their music. "Every night, we strive to play extremely tight. Sometimes is can be difficult to make such an intense show so interactive, but we make sure that everyone is getting involved," says Lewis.

On June 24th, CARNIFEX will proudly deliver their ferocious new album to the metal masses. Intriguing and armed to the teeth with an arsenal of blast beats, machine gun riffs and vocals exorcised from the deepest pits of hell, The Diseased and the Poisoned is the soundtrack to your worst nightmare. CARNIFEX is ready to steal your soul.

Molotov Solution
Molotov Solution
Molotov Solution is a deathcore band from Las Vegas. The bands lyrical content has to do with government conspiracies, which is very uncommon in the death metal/deathcore scene.

Released a demo in 2004, then in 2005 self released their EP "The Path To Extinction."

In 2006 they signed to 12 Gauge records and released a split album with War From a Harlot's mouth which had a mix of deathcore and grindcore.

In 2008 they released a self-titled album with a more straight forward, groove oriented approach:
"Molotov Solution's latest release is a big step forward for the band, a much more groove-oriented affair that sees the group toning down the grindcore influences once prominent in their sound for a much more immediate, focused attack."
"I was kind of tired of writing riff after riff after riff, not really repeating anything," Pina says, flanked by heavily tattooed new guitarist Joe Brady, who boasts more ink than "War and Peace." "I wanted to make very solid songs and make things distinguishable on the album.""

Released "The Harbinger" on June 9th 2009 on Metal Blade records.
Conducting From The Grave
Conducting From The Grave
Conducting From The Grave formed in the fall of 2003 from members and ex-members of local Sacramento bands With Passion, Promising Tomorrow and others. By mid 2004 a solid line-up had been established: John Abernathy on guitar, Gregory Donnelly (formerly of Promising Tomorrow) on drums, Jeffrey Morgan (formerly of With Passion) on guitar, Philip Williamson on bass, and Shaun Gier (guitarist of With Passion) on vocals. In October 2004 Conducting From The Grave released their first recording, a 4-song demo entitled "Breathe The Blackened Sky." Then in early 2005 Shaun had to leave the band to dedicate more time to his other band (With Passion) who had just signed to Earache Records. Shaun was quickly succeeded by new vocalist Drew Winter (formerly of Murder at Hand). By this time they had established a significant following in Northern California and were ready to hit the studio in preparation for the April 2005 release of their debut EP, "Trials Of The Forsaken". Conducting From The Grave then spent the summer of '05 touring the US in support of the release. When the band returned home Phil Williamson decided to leave the band to persue personal interests. In the following weeks Conducting From The Grave decided to part ways with Drew Winter as well. Drew is now the vocalist for Debello Castrum In the process of searching for new members, the band discovered that their good friends With Passion had also recently suffered a severe loss of members. Due to the bands having shared some of the same members previously, John Abernathy, Jeff Morgan, and Greg Donnelly decided to join forces with Michael Nordeen and Shaun Gier (the two remaining members of With Passion) to form a new, more solid line-up as With Passion on Earache Records.

November 3rd the band got back together and had a reunion show with 2 new songs and tweaked all their classics. Check them out - www.myspace.com/conductingfromthegrave

CDC
CDC
CDC emerged in September 2003 from the silent suburban streets of 3 little towns by the names of Lansdale, Doylestown, and Perkasie. Having started as an "in-studio" project the original members decided to take the band to higher places. With a newly recorded demo and an instant "buzz" about them, CDC began playing shows all over the east coast.

A year and a half later, CDC set up and recorded 4 tracks for a split release, but problems occured. Those four songs were then teamed up with 2 unreleased tracks and a demo track, and finally released in 2006 on Ghosttown Recordsas an ep titled "The Split". The 4 tracks also appear on a split with BY MY HANDS(Glasgow Scotland) entitled Kontinental Kings, released on Zone 6 Records, and fairly certain is out of print.

When 2007 drew to an end, after doing an extensive American/European tour, the band decided to take a break from touring. Now with 2008 well underway, Ghosttown Records re-released "The Split" as "DEFY THE ODDS". The re-release has been remixed, remastered, added new vocals, as well as a new layout. Along with the re-release, the band has decided to hit the road again this summer after almost 8 months off. With the tightest and most solid line up to date, the band is planning on taking over the world.

In the begging of 2007 the band started the recording process for their long overdue release on FILLED WITH HATE RECORDS. Be expecting that release to finally be ready by summer 2008. All in all, 2008 looks to be a very productive and busy year for CDC. Keep your eyes peeled, cause they will probably be playing somewhere close to you.
