Ever since her days with groundbreaking Icelandic pop band the Sugarcubes, Björk has defined "alternative" with a unique combination of artistry and style. Since embarking on her solo career, she has smashed artistic boundaries again and again, constructing an exhilarating new musical world of sounds and textures, from intense dance beats to delicate ballads, securing her position as an international superstar and one of the most compelling figures in pop music. On top of her success in the world of music, she also wrote the score to Lars von Trier's bleak and moving film Dancer In The Dark, which won the award for Best Picture at Cannes, and for which Bjork won the award for Best Actress. This past February Björk began recording material for her next Elektra studio album. Although scant additional information is available, the set is being referred to as "The Lake Album." A sound clip of Bjork in the studio is available on the bjork.com site. The new album will be the follow-up to 2001's Vespertine, which debuted at No. 19 on The Billboard 200 and has gone gold in the U.S. In late 2002 she released a greatest hits compilation.
