In a time when "alternative" has become mainstream and most artists remain "independent" only till they're shown enough money, Ani DiFranco is a true maverick. Live performer of over a thousand concerts, founder of her own record label at age nineteen, and producer of eight albums in seven years, Ani DiFranco is not your typical singer-songwriter. She's a fiercely, truly independent musician who has resisted major labels in order to stake out her own artistic ground — on her own terms. It has been a while since Ani has treated her fans to a multi-city tour of stripped-down solo performances. Once again, they'll be able to soak up the intimacy and intensity that emanate from the simple combination of the Li'l Folksinger and her guitar. As usual, she'll be sure to perform selections from every phase of her career, from older classics to songs from her critically acclaimed double album Revelling/Reckoning which was released in 2002. Late last year Ani also released a double-disc LIVE CD called So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter, which offers up two hours of music including three previously unrecorded songs and twenty more compositions from every phase of Ani’s career, all recorded with the beloved six piece band she toured with from 2000-2002. Earlier this year Ani released a new CD called Evolve. This album is a carefully-crafted studio creation that still possesses the loose spontaneity of a live show. Favoring whispers over screams and delicate open chords over power strumming, Evolve takes an intimate look at a world determined to change as the singer herself. |
